Bumble and bumble. Surf Spray!

Image
I recently saw an advertisement for the Bumble and bumble.Surf Spray featuring a model with amazing “beachy” waves which made interested inthe product as I’ve always wanted to achieve this kind of look with my hair, without using straighteners. The product can be used on both dry and damp hairand claims to give you " Sexy, salty, sun-dried, windswept styles - whenever, wherever. " I decided to purchase the 50ml size for £8.50 from a Boots’Bumble and bumble and when I was travelling on my way back from the store Idecided to read some reviews on the product, which instantly made me regretbuying it. The product had so many 1 star reviews, with people saying it’s awaste of money, and I thought I was going to really hate the product myself. As my hair goes quite frizzy and lifeless after blow drying,I think it would be a good idea to try it on dry hair. After spraying theproduct and scrunching and rearranging the ends, I started to notice ”beachy”waves form, which made my just-d

Just Fake-Tan!

Image
A few weeks ago I watched a documentary on the the extremes some individuals in Britain go to in order to have a tan. I was shocked to see people injecting themselves with liquids which aren't even legal to purchase within the UK (they order it online from abroad) and aren't even safely tested yet, but they claim to increase the levels of melatonin within the skin (or stimulate their growth, not sure what they do exactly as I'm not a biological whizz). Anyways, after injecting himself, the guy felt nauseous a lot of the time and woke up in hot sweats in the middle of the night... but guess what? He still kept injecting himself! Not a very bright thing to do, but at least he is forming a tan, right? ...:| Another tanning platform which annoys me is sunbeds. On this programme a lady was having a consultation with a doctor to check underneath her skin before she had Botox done and the results of the facial scan were rather shocking. As soon as the image came up, the consulta

Should I Start a YouTube Channel?

Yo! So, for years I have been watching Beauty channels on YouTube and knew that someday I would love to be able to create them for myself. Here's some of my initial feelings when it came to wanting to start a channel... - Talking to a camera is flippin' awkward! My respect for those who post videos on a regular basis has literally shot through the roof. I am constantly worrying that next door can hear me speaking to myself and they'll think I've turned into a lunatic... I've had a few test runs and I'm starting to become a little bit more comfortable in front of the camera.   - I used to worry that people from my school/work would see them and take the p*ss... but now I've realised that is kind of inevitable and it's gonna happen so I may as well just deal with it. - I worry that nobody will want to watch my videos and find them boring... but then I thought, if I just make videos which I know I'd enjoy I'm sure somebody out there would

Winter Wishlist!

Image
1.    Jeffrey Campbell Lita I think these would be perfect for going out down town in the winter as they’d definitely keep feet warm, and would look cute paired with a pair of lace socks (number 3.). Although £120 seems quite expensive, I think you definitely get your money’s worth as they seem quite hardwearing. The raised platform also means the shoes aren’t as uncomfortable as they look, as the feet won’t be at such a harsh angle. www.office.co.uk   2.    Topshop Faux Fur Collar I’ve noticed these in stores everywhere and will definitely be purchasing one soon! They add lovely detail to any jacket/coat, especially leather. This specific one from Topshop is £35, but they can be purchased anywhere from H&M to Matalan from just £6, but make sure you get a soft faux fur as some can be very harsh and irritate your neck. www.topshop.com   3.    Wine Organza Trim Ankle Socks These laced top socks are perfect for going out down town in winter as they l

Update & Introduction!

Hello! So I've realised this blog doesn't yet have a proper introduction, so I thought I might as well introduce it here. My name is Julia and for years I have adored watching beauty gurus on YouTube and reading their blogs to find the best new products around and to gain advice on the application of make up. I have a huge interest in beauty brands and feel I now know just enough to be able to review and enlighten others on certain products. My blog has recently had a name change to "HighstreetSweetHighstreet" as I'm going to mention mainly drugstore/highstreet products rather than high end products. This is because I am hoping to study at university next year, and this year I am determined to save as much money as possible for it, whilst partaking in voluntary work, which means I do not have enough left over to spend extortionate amounts of money on high end brands. Also, I know a lot of people are in the same situation as me or are currently studying, and I&

REVIEW! Macadamia Natural Oil - Deep Repair Masque

Image
So, before I give you the lowdown of this product, I thought I would give you a bit of background about my hair. This is just so you know if I say anything positive/negative about this product, it could just be referring to the effects of my specific hair type. I have VERY curly hair, which is a nightmare to tame daily. Whether it is straightened with GHDs (where I make sure heat protection is used) or left to naturally dry, I seem to have split ends. I don’t straighten my hair that much anymore, but did abuse it in my early teens (13-15) which I regret immensely, and feel the dried-out-ness was un-repairable... Then I caught sight of the remarkable reviews of this product... Beauty gurus on YouTube constantly have this product in their “Beauty Favourites” or “Haircare Routine” videos and rave, rave, rave about it, to the point where I considered ordering it for full price from an online store. I decided not to do this as I never really purchase “high end” hair products and t

The 2012 Designer Pudsey Collection

Image
The 2012 Designer Pudsey Collection I think Katie Grand's (Love magazine editor)  idea of having designers club together to create a collection of Pudsey bears to be auctioned off to charity is amazing. Not only is it interesting to see all their unique twists on the iconic, originally yellow bear, but every single penny goes straight to Children in Need, supporting great causes improving the welfare of disadvantaged children and young people in the United Kingdom. I definitely have a few favourites from the collection. Firstly, I think the Mulberry bear, complete with a miniature Mulberry over the shoulder bag, is adorable! The bear itself is rather understated, with just a tan suede effect all over and dark brown facial features, which echoes the minimalistic yet stylish nature of Mulberry bags and purses themselves. I also love the Vivienne Westwood bear, with the signature use of all colours making up the Union Jack and the silly expression on the face of the bear. I thi

My Favourite Lip Products!

My Favourite Lip Products! 1. Benefit Posie Tint (around £24.50) available at Debenhams/Boots/House of Fraser/John Lewis/Online. I really debated on whether to get this product or not as £24.50 seemed quite extortionate for a tint but it leaves my lips the prettiest "poppy-pink" colour after just simply dotting a tiny bit of it on. I never use it as a cheek stain as I am not too keen on using liquid-y tints on my face as they feel quite greasy. 2. Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipsticks in the colours 20 (old collection, black tube) and 107 (new collection, red tube) (around £5.50) available at Boots/Superdrug/Online. I always wanted a bright pink lipstick and a dark red lipstick but didn't fancy forking out a lot of money, so when I saw these colours in Boots for just over £5, I knew I had to have them. In high street stores, I never try the lipstick on as they only leave an over-used tester out on the shelves, so I was quite worried that due to the matte-looking text

My Skincare Routine!

Image
Everyday Skincare Routine    From watching beauty gurus on YouTube for years, I came across many positive, raving reviews of Liz Earle's Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser . I caved in and decided to purchase this product myself a couple of weeks ago. I bought the 100ml pump starter kit for £14.25 (and P&P was around £3) which comes in a handy zip-up pouch with 2 muslin cloths (basically unbleached cloths) and a 50ml sample of their Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic , which is £12.50 for a 200ml bottle. The cleanser has definitely earned a firm place in my skincare routine, I love the fact that you can put it all over your closed eyes to completely remove make-up, as it contains no harsh ingredients which could harm them, and then you easily wipe it off with a damp muslin cloth. I do also like the toner but after the sample is used up, I am going straight back to my beloved Witch Hazel , which I have been a fan of for years, and costs just £2.15 from Lloyds Ph

REVIEW! Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 2013 Show

Image
After watching the Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 2013 show which took place yesterday on YouTube, I was left extremely impressed and incredibly jealous of all those who were lucky enough to attend! The start of the show gave me goosebumps just from watching on a laptop screen, so I can only imagine how those actually inside the venue felt. At the start of the show, the atmosphere in the venue seemed absolutely amazing as eerie music played into the dark room. A dark material was then removed from the glass roof exposing the room to daylight, then the show got underway.   Here's a link to the full show on YouTube... The Burberry Prorsum Womenswear Spring/Summer 2013 Show     The female models donned minimalistic make-up, looking like they had next to nothing on their eyes, but with very defined cheek bones. The make-up was very natural but was then amplified by red lips. The soft, flowing hair made sure that no attention was taken away from the gorgeous collection.   He
