July Haul!

Image
And the world’s most inconsistent “blogger” award goes to… So lately I have not blogged as much as I’d hoped, and I have no excuses apart from pure laziness and lack of inspiration to do so. But… this month is the month I seem to have been buying quite a lot of things I have wanted for agesss. I’m not sure why this is, I think I just got a little bit too click happy with the “add to basket” button and bought a few things from Boots/John Lewis which I have wanted to try. Starting with Boots… Soap & Glory’s “One Heck of a Blot” £12 I’m a big fan of using translucent face powders to set makeup in my t-zone and run underneath my eyes to try and prevent smudges ever since using the Rimmel “Stay Matte” powder which I came to an end of. I decided to try another brand and I’ve heard good things about this one. Also, I’m a sucker for S&G’s snazzy packaging.    L’Oreal “Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution” £3.33 This is pretty much a cheaper and

Summer Wishlist

Here's some things I've been lusting over for Summer '13! Gandys Flip-Flops http://www.gandysflipflops.com/orphans-for-orphans Many were left orphaned after the Tsunami, including the Gandys brothers, and they’ve decided to release a range of flip-flops in order to raise money for fellow orphans to make sure they get a better quality of life. The flip-flops cost £19.99, which seems a lot for a flimsy bit of footwear, but as it says on the website, they are a “Purchase with Purpose” and come in a wide variety of shades. I personally love the blue, yellow & pink ones. The money the brothers raise is being used to open a children’s home in their parent’s memory. Tortoise Shell Ray-Ban Wayfarer I’d love to own a pair of these tortoise shell Ray-Bans as I think they look incredible with almost any outfit and I love the classic Wayfarer style. I’ve wanted a pair for a few years now but can’t bring myself to fork out on the £120ish price tag.

Poland Haul

Image
Last week I went to Poland with two of my friends, primarily going for the Auschwitz tour (yes, no “Maga” or “Napa” for us) but once I found out their local shopping centre contained a Sephora and Inglot store, the excitement for our trip definitely built! The first thing I purchased from Sephora was this highlighter. The pigment is stunning (I took a photograph with the flash on and off so you can see how the flash picks up the shimmer, you can tell it photographs well and would look awesome on photos from nights out!) and it only cost me £8ish, can’t remember the exact amount of Polish zloty. Also from Sephora, I picked up this “Ultra vinyl lip pencil” which was on sale for 21 zloty, which is around £4. The pigmentation on this is also amazing but the colour kinda reminds me of Christmas. I’ve also just realised you have to sharpen it as I thought you could just twist the bottom, oops. Excuse the wonky mouth and dodgy smile. I also picked up these 4 brushes. I thought t

SPA H2O Sea Salt Skin Smoother – From M&S range – 340g (part of a set) – £20 for 680g I’ve really enjoyed using this exfoliator as I find most of the time exfoliators seem to have a low salt consistency which leaves skin feeling oily rather than exfoliated (not sure if I’ve worded this right, but it is something than annoys me when I use exfoliators such as Soap & Glory’s Breakfast Scrub), and this product seems to be mainly salt with just a little bit of oil so it’s easy to massage into the skin. I wouldn’t recommend this product for those who have sensitive skin at all as the salt can feel really harsh, and I also would recommend just using hands for application rather than an exfoliating glove as the product itself does all the work and doing so could leave skin feeling quite sore and cause a rash when using moisturiser afterwards. St Tropez Gradual Tan – Light to Medium – 75ml (sample size) – £14.39 for 200ml from Boots Normally I don’t usually opt for light

Percy & Reed - Quite Frankly Flawless Finishing Polish

Image
This may look like an average dishevelled hairstyle, but to me, it's pretty much a breakthrough when it comes to my everyday hair routine, and all thanks to Percy & Reed. I can't even begin to list all the products which I have tried in the past that have claimed to smooth, de-frizz, control, straighten... etc my locks. Non of them worked, and I was left thinking my hair just needs extra time in the morning to be straightened as products alone aren't going to miraculously tame the mane. A couple of months ago I picked up Glamour which just so happened to have the Percy & Reed Finishing Polish for hair attached (an 100ml sample, which is very generous!) Now, I'm a firm believer that if a company reckons their product is awesome and that it's going to sell, they'll be willing to give free samples to everyday consumers such as me, and not just renowned bloggers to use as promotion platforms, as they know you will love their product and will be back

Spring Wishlist

Image
So... apparently it's now Spring. You wouldn't think it by the arctic conditions facing us in the UK right now, but still, there's no harm in lusting over the colours, prints and fashion that Spring stock has to offer.    Jeffrey Campbell Cut Out Shoes As soon as I saw these shoes I fell a little bit in love. The lace up patent leather lining with gold hardware makes them look very old fashioned, but then the cut out heel brings a very modern edge. I can’t find them on any British websites, but they cost $175 in the US so I don’t even want to think about what the amount would total to including shipping. Just admiring images of them online will have to do for now. Kate Spade bracelets If I had to choose a favourite designer, it would be Kate Spade, although I am yet to own anything. As soon as I saw a gorgeous Kate Spade bag on instagram I have been hooked. I just think all the designs are a perfect mix between being quirky and girly. I adore the use of bows/

February Favourites

Garnier Fructis Surf Hair ASDA - £1.50 150ml After using Bumble and bumble.’s Surf Spray, I wished to find more products which would have a beachy effect on my hair. Reviews of the B&b. Surf Spray are rather negative online and I often see reviewers directing people to this product   – Garnier Fructis Surf Hair. I came across this product in ASDA for £1.50 for a 150ml tub, which is a complete improvement on the £8.50 price tag of a 50ml bottle of B&b. Surf Spray. The product has the typical fruity aroma which is associated with the Garnier Fructis range, which I love. The texture is a “Matte Gum” and all you have to do is scoop a little bit out of the tub and warm it up into your hands and then work it into your hair; bending, twirling and scrunching it until you reach your desirable style of beachy waves. In comparison to the Surf Spray, it is apparent that this product is much better to use on your hair in terms of not drying it out.   MUA Lipstick Superdrug

How do you find “The Perfect Balance”?

At the moment I feel like I’m in a bit of a make-up rut, as no matter where I go, I do not know how much make-up I should be applying. For daytime I usually stick to BB cream, concealer, eyeliner, mascara, blush and lip balm and replace BB cream with foundation and add eyeshadow, highlighter, lipstick and false eyelashes for nights out. But... depending on who I am with, I either feel like I am wearing too little or too much, as half my friends don the more natural look and others tend to prefer wearing a rather heavy layer. Also, seeing girls on Instagram cake their face in make-up just to take their dogs for a walk is making me reconsider how much I should be wearing in the daytime. I’m not usually one to be heavily influenced by other people as I am quite opinionated myself and can make my own decisions without help of others, but when it comes to how much make-up to wear within the day, I’m lost! What do you think is an appropriate amount of make-up to wear in the d

REVIEW! The Body Shop's BB Cream

Image
I think "the one" has finally been found. During the day, I find foundations too heavy and "cakey" for my skin, as although I complain about my complexion a lot, I do have pretty good skin which tends to behave most of the time. I prefer using BB creams for a light to medium coverage as I find they are less clogging of my pores so the vicious cycle of 'pore-clogging -> spots -> apply more foundation -> pore-clogging -> spots' never really occurs and they are hydrating enough for me not to have to apply a moisturiser beforehand. I must have tried about six BB creams so far in the past year from various brands and I haven't been majorly impressed, then I spotted this little wonder in The Body Shop. I picked up shade 01 in their Colour-Adapting Tinted Cream for £12 last week and I am amazed every single time I use it. The cream comes out white, which at first I found a bit strange but thankfully when it is worked into the skin the colour

Ojon Damage Reverse Shampoo & Conditioner In November, John Lewis (and basically every store which stocks Ojon) held an event in which you could trade in a bottle of any brand shampoo or conditioner and you’d receive this duo for free, I think it was to promote the recycling of plastic… can’t really remember! Baring in mind this would set you back around £41 at its RRP, I was thrilled! I’d previously seen a few beauty bloggers rave about Ojon products which made me want to try some myself, so I made sure I got to the store rather early to pick up my freebies. For the first few uses, my hair genuinely felt different. It became much more slick and easy to manage and as I previously used a lot of heat, it seemed to work wonders on the ends of my hair. But, after using them as my every-other-day shampoo and conditioning products, I started to notice my hair feeling dryer and I felt like my hair was becoming immune to the restoring properties promised by the product.

Beside Skincare

Image
After receiving the Latest in Beauty advent calendar, I had an abundance of sample-sized skincare products all over my bedroom and I realised I really needed to get some order. I sorted all the products out and purchased a cute, butterfly covered box (From Boux Avenue, reduced to £3 from £6) to put all the skincare products that I could use morning and night in to have handy next to my bed. The Moisturisers Within the LIB calendar, I received 3 moisturisers. Firstly was an interesting little product which comes in a nicely decorated tin called STEAMCREAM . This product is SO handy to have before bedtime as you can use it on your face, hands and body; so this is definitely my go-to product if I happen to have any dry skin anywhere! The product itself smells kind of like Sudocreme (which I personally don’t mind) and a little goes a long way, and I think this is the actual full size of the product so it is going to last me a while. When the product is used up I’m definitely go

Nylon Hair Ties!

Image
A couple of months ago I read @ isobelmeg 's Under £10 Winter Gift Guide blog post containing silk hair ties and became instantly interested in the idea. I have wanted to purchase some for a while now as I have to spend a majority of my time with my hair tied up for work and find ordinary "bobbles" drag my hair and are just uncomfortable to wear. I never got around to purchasing the products though the website linked from Meg's blog post but I luckily came across nylon versions in Claire's Accessories. They were in the sale section and I purchased two packs for £2.50 each (usually £3, which is still a bargain) each pack contains 4 hair ties and after my first full day of  wearing the bright pink one I knew I had to write about them. I don't think I am ever going to return to wearing ordinary hair ties, as non of them even compare to these hair ties. These nylon beauties... ...don't drag on the hair and don't pull any strands out whatsoever. ...do
